Performing Jazz, Classical, Rock, Blues, Pop, R&B, Rockabilly, Folk & Country music. After developing a career as a performer and educator in Los Angeles (2009-2020), Sean spent a year in Seoul, South Korea before moving back to Chicago in 2021. Currently Sean is pursuing his Masters Degree in Jazz Studies at Northern Illinois University and is performing and teaching in Chicago-land. Sean loves performing and has done so regularly with the Frontline Quartet, True Luck Trio and his project the Lemona Jazz Quartet in LA. He has recorded and toured with The Evening Guests, Elodie and the Free Notion, Stumpwaller, Toy District and Phat Cat Swinger. Sean has also performed with many big bands including The Battle of the Big Bands, CSUN Jazz A Band, NIU Jazz Orchestra and The Christian McBride Big Band. Additionally, Sean has experience in musical theater, opera and orchestral settings. Sean has been immersed in collegiate musical study since 2009, earning his Associates degree from the Musicians Institute (2011), AA Degree in music from Los Angeles City College (2016) and Bachelors Degree in Jazz Studies at California State University, Northridge (2020). Currently, Sean is working on his graduate degree at Northern Illinois State University (2021-23). He began studying guitar at the age of 12 and bass a few years later. At the age of 18 Sean moved to Hollywood, California to study electric bass at the Musicians Institute. While there he studied electric bass with Michael Mennelle and acoustic bass with Putter Smith. In 2011 Sean received his Associates Degree in Electric Bass Performance. Following his graduation Sean began regularly performing and teaching in Los Angeles. In 2013 Sean began attending Los Angeles City College where he was a Herb Albert Scholar, performed in the Reno Jazz Festival with the Studio Jazz Band and Jazz Combo and spent a summer abroad in Spain studying music. While attending LACC Sean studied Jazz Bass with Nate Light and David Tranchina. Additionally, Sean studied Classical Bass with Dr. David Young at the Colburn School of Music. He Graduated from LACC in 2017 with Honors earning an AA in Music performance. In 2018 Sean began his undergraduate degree in Jazz Studies at California State University Northridge and was honored to be a recipient of the Herb Alpert Foundation Scholarship. He studied with renown bassist/educator Gary Pratt and was a member of the Jazz A Band. While in the Jazz A band, Sean toured New Zealand, recorded, and performed at the Next Generation Jazz Festival. In 2020 Sean graduated Magna Cum Laude earning his Bachelor of Music Degree. Following his graduation, Sean and his wife relocated to Seoul, South Korea to study the Korean language and perform on the Korean music scene. After a year in Seoul, Sean returned to his home state of Illinois to pursue his Masters Degree in Jazz Performance at Northern Illinois State University. He is currently playing in the NIU Jazztet and NIU Jazz Orchestra while studying with the fantastic bassist Marlene Rosenburg.
